The Laohekou No.2 Water Plant Capacity Expansion and Quality Improvement Project, as one of the municipal government's "Top Ten Livelihood Projects," has a total investment of 41.4 million yuan. The project covers an area of 6,667 square meters and can treat up to 60,000 tons of water per day. It adopts a core process consisting of a folded plate flocculation tank + horizontal flow sedimentation tank + V-type filter, thoroughly solving the pain points of "aging processes and fluctuating water quality" that had troubled residents for many years. In this water quality upgrade battle, three Krupp oil-free screw blowers, with their excellent performance, have become the "invisible guardians" ensuring efficient filter operation and high-quality water supply. In July 2021, the water plant procured three Krupp oil-free screw blowers from our company, which passed commissioning and began operation in September of the same year, with satisfactory performance.

The Pain of Livelihood: The Dual Challenge of Aging Water Purification Processes

The frequent occurrence of "brown water" at the ends of the old urban water supply network, seasonal turbidity fluctuations, and the risk of disinfection by-products — the root of these issues points directly to the limitations of the original water purification system at the No.2 Water Plant. The traditional water purification units are inefficient, with insufficient capacity to remove colloids and microorganisms from the Hanjiang River raw water. The outdated backwash system of the old filters provides unstable air supply, leading to filter media compaction, short-circuiting, and reduced contaminant capture capacity. The newly expanded 60,000-ton/day water purification system needed to achieve a leap in water quality under space-constrained conditions, with the air-water backwash of the V-type filters becoming the key to success.

Technical Breakthrough of Krupp Oil-Free Screw Blowers

Facing the demanding requirements of filter backwash, the project team selected three Krupp oil-free screw blowers as the core power for the air scouring system in July 2021. Their technical advantages directly addressed traditional pain points.

Adopting twin-screw positive displacement compression technology, the outlet pressure fluctuation is less than ±1%, completely eliminating the uneven filter bed disturbance caused by the "pulsed air supply" of traditional Roots blowers. When V-type filters enter the backwash cycle in sequence, the blower uses an intelligent variable frequency system to match air demand in real time, ensuring constant pressure and achieving uniform fluidization of the quartz sand filter media.

2. Millisecond-level response, ensuring air-water coordination precision

With a PLC-based interlocking control system, the moment the filter switches to "air scouring mode," the blower can ramp from standby to rated condition within 0.5 seconds, achieving precise coordination with the pump system with a timing error of less than 1 second, avoiding filter media loss caused by air-water asynchronization.

3. 100% oil-free assurance, protecting long-term filter bed life

TüV Rheinland Class 0 oil-free certified compressed air eliminates the risk of lubricating oil contaminating filter media micropores at the source. Compared to traditional oil-lubricated blowers, filter media replacement intervals are extended from 5 years to over 8 years, saving more than 200,000 yuan annually in filter media replacement costs.
